I enjoy helping philanthropists plan how their values and passion will influence their legacy in a positive and lasting way. Decisions made today will influence families for generations, as well as the communities they serve.
Who is Kristi Cooper? First and foremost, I’m a friend for life. I live by “Once you know me, you’ll always be part of my life.” This has certainly been true of so many people throughout my life – friends from childhood and summer camp, friends from church, my fellow Baylor Bears and many professional colleagues and philanthropists. We remain connected because we share the same values – trust and integrity, embracing what we have in common and where we differ.
I also enjoy connecting people! I have spent much of my career in non-profit organizations where I have brought together donors and charitable missions. This was true when I worked for Rice University and also at Baylor College of Medicine where I served as Vice President of Philanthropy and Alumni Relations for seven years. I particularly enjoyed engaging with donors to help them find their passion and make meaningful gifts that aligned with their charitable goals.
One of my career highlights came when I was selected by a board member and donor to lead their private family foundation and plan for its growth and philanthropic legacy. I cherish my own family and recognize the importance of collaboration and family alignment to preserve wealth while creating a positive and lasting impact. This isn’t easy work, but I like a good challenge. By working with The Robert and Janice McNair Foundation, I developed a passion for partnering with multigenerational families to chart their path forward.
Speaking of family, I am a native Houstonian. I am proud of my city and my state for all we stand for – from the wildcatters of the past, to the ever-increasing number of entrepreneurs who are spurring our economy, to the discoveries made in our world-class Texas Medical Center. You may find me at a state park or the East Texas Piney Woods most weekends with my husband, John, and our two hounds. I serve my neighbors as a volunteer at the East Spring Branch Food Pantry and Care Share and in a leadership role with the Houston Philanthropy Circle. People helping people drives me personally and professionally.
